It has been a busy month of March for us. Spring has finally officially come and as the snow melts I hope it will be gone for good this time and the next storm to come will bring rain rather then more of the fluffy white stuff. But you never know we do live in Northern Michigan. So cross your fingers for warmer temps.
With the warm spells we have been trying our hand at maple syrup and have a few small great tasting batches to show for it. We have both Grade A Light Amber and Grade A Medium Amber at the moment and will see what else will come. It has been fun continuing to learn and see what we can accomplish as well as try our hand at new things.
The chicks are growing like weeds and have changed so much, one more month and I will be able to get them out of the house which will be nice. Larry has put a lot of work in and finished up the coup and all that's left are a few nesting boxes and it looks amazing. So stay tuned for eggs because they will be coming.
The pigs are ever present and growing we should have our first market hog ready by April, May at the latest so keep an eye out and start thinking about what you would like and what cuts of meet you are looking for. Hopefully in April it will be nice enough to get the fencing up and have them going outside again to root around and be pigs. They are starting to get a little cabin fever in the barn.
Finally we have planted a variety of things and are just starting to see some sprouts come up in our sun room turned green house. So hopefully we will be able to offer some sides to all the eggs and pork. As well as some seasonings and herbs. For now stay tuned in on our Facebook page to keep up with all the happenings on the farm.
